Care & Maintenance
Performing routine septic system maintenance goes a long way in preventing premature septic system failure. Homeowners across New Hampshire have regularly come to Felix Septic Service because we take septic care very seriously while making it as easy as possible. As a homeowner, it’s important to understand the simple steps you can take in keeping your septic maintenance up to date.
What can’t be flushed down your toilet? Flushing foreign objects such as dental floss, tampons, paper towels, coffee grinds, cigarette butts and condoms will eventually cause issues for your system. Though this list isn’t comprehensive, it should give you the hint that nothing but your personal waste and the toilet paper should be flushed! Chemicals that are not toilet-safe also fall into this category. Poisonous chemicals (except for toilet cleaners) should never be flushed down.
Your septic system is not a trash can and the consequences are costly if you treat it like one. Septic system maintenance doesn’t begin with our service team — it starts with you, the homeowner. Regular pumping should be the only other concern, which we can take care of under an automated schedule so you don’t have to worry. Practicing good septic maintenance habits will pay dividends down the road in saving you time and money.

Scheduling septic service varies greatly on the kind of job you need done. A regular system pump can typically be scheduled within a couple business days, while larger projects require more dedicated appointment setting. Scheduling service always depends on how busy we are at that time; get in touch with us today to set up an appointment asap.
There are many rules and regulations regarding septic systems. For the most part, all technical requirements should be the responsibility of the designer and installer of the system, so make sure you pick a reputable and DES licensed company like Felix Septic Service. As a homeowner there are only a few things you need to worry about, things like flushing the right materials, conserving water and taking proper care of the system. Refer to our helpful Dos and Don’ts diagram above. For further information you should visit the website of the Department of Environmental Service.
Not sure where your septic system resides on your property? No problem! The experts at Felix will locate it for you. If necessary, we are capable of utilizing electronic sensors that we send through your system. Using this tool we can pinpoint the exact location of your system.

Just wanted to say that Nick was a great help today. Not only did he identify the problem and drain the tank, he also showed me the flaw in my system and how to fix it. He was the one bright spot in a day filled with vacuuming up dirty water in my basement. Thanks for everything.
